Today an abundance of waterfowl and shorebirds feed, roost, and nest in wetlands where just twenty years ago there were crystallizer ponds.

In 1972 these lands became part of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Now where vacant industrial buildings and empty parking lots could have stood, wetlands have been restored providing habitat for wildlife and recreational opportunities for Bay Area residents. It is a testament to what can be accomplished with vision, passion, and a little hard work.

But our work does not end there, there are many more wetlands through the Bay Area that are threatened. Join us as we continue to protect our invaluable wetlands.
